Community Health & Wellness Center Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Dignitaries Addressing Lack of Primary Care Services in Northwest Corner

10/14/2021

Torrington, CT - Community Health & Wellness Center (CHWC) is hosting a roundtable discussion with Attorney General William Tong and other dignitaries on Friday, October 15th, starting at 12 p.m.  The one-hour in-person meeting will take place at the center’s  469 Migeon Avenue location in Torrington, and Joanne Borduas, CEO, CHWC, will serve as chairperson.
The purpose of the discussion is to:
  • Address the lack of primary care providers in towns north of Torrington
  • Dispel the myth poverty does not exist in those service areas
  • Demonstrate chronic conditions are prevalent
  • Explore other data that may provide insight into the needs of residents

For rural healthcare providers, these challenges present barriers to adequately addressing community healthcare needs and social determinants of health.  Lack of access to both primary care and specialty services for the underserved patients in our northwest communities has reached a critical point, and the discussion will address these issue and assist with developing sustainable solutions that will strengthen the northwest corner’s overall population health and economic vitality.

Along with Attorney General Tong, confirmed attendees include:
  • State Representative for the 64th District Maria Horn
  • State Representative for the 65th District Michelle Cook
  • Nancy Heaton, CEO, Foundation for Community Health
  • Lori Fedewa, Director, Office of Rural Health
  • Andrea Rynn, Assistant Vice President, Community Government and Public Relations, Nuvance Health
  • Mark Hirko, MD, President, Sharon Hospital
