CHWC is pleased to introduce the community to our new mobile medical unit (MMU), “BETTY Bringing Exceptional Treatment To You.”
Our well-equipped MMU will enable us to expand our reach into the community and provide a flexible service delivery model that will help to meet the needs of a diverse population, addressing the lack of transportation in the region, which often presents as a barrier to care. The MMU is an important community asset that will also help to address social disparities and inequities often found among vulnerable and underserved populations. Its mission is to bring access and valuable healthcare services where the people of the communities we serve live and work.
BETTY will travel to various locations throughout the Northwest region to offer a range of non-critical care services, including:
Medical screenings and examinations
Point-of-care testing, such as blood glucose; pregnancy tests, A1C levels; hemoglobin; blood pressure; vision and hearing screening, rapid COVID, strep, influenza, HIV, and Hep-C testing
Vaccinations
Screening for social determinants of health and the ability to assess people’s eligibility for insurance
Education and awareness of disease process and a range of health topics that will improve health and promote healthy living as well as address preventative measures to improve health outcomes
Referrals for continuity of care, behavioral health and dental services to CHWC’s sites in Torrington and Winsted or, when necessary, referrals to one of our community-based partners for issues/concerns requiring a higher level of care, imaging, pharmacy and lab services.
The MMU will have onboard a highly-skilled staff that includes medical providers, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and community health workers. The MMU has the capability to enter data into our electronic medical record system that supports clinical management, patient documentation, and the ability to close gaps in care.
We are excited to take BETTY on the road and bring high quality medical and behavioral health care to everyone. Our MMU provides a direct, patient-centric experience that enables us to eliminate barriers to needed healthcare services for our most vulnerable populations, assisting us to make our communities stronger and healthier.”
