TORRINGTON, CT, July 29th —Community Health & Wellness Center (CHWC), Torrington, and Winsted, CT, will celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW) with a special event on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. outside at their 469 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, and 10 Center Street, Winsted, locations. The national initiative runs August 8-14, and the theme is “The Chemistry for Strong Communities.” The focus will be about showcasing the innovative ways that Health Centers are providing high-quality health care, improving health outcomes, and narrowing health disparities in our communities. CHWC’s event will feature free COVID-19 vaccines, confidential HIV testing with results in 20 minutes, and a tour of the Center’s new Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), “BETTY” (Bringing Exceptional Treatment To You). In addition, there will be an opportunity to meet CHWC providers and a number of the Health Center’s community partners, as well as special guest dignitaries. Festivities also include free face painting for children and firetrucks at both locations for kids to explore. Refreshments will be available, and Friendly Hands Food Bank will be in Torrington to distribute non-perishable food items while supplies last. At the Winsted event, ECAD Service Dogs will have a booth and a noon will give a service dog demonstration.
Over the past five decades, Health Centers across the country have served more than 29 million people—a number that continues to grow along with the demand for affordable primary care. In addition to their long history as health care homes to millions, Health Centers produce innovative solutions to the most pressing health care issues in their communities and reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address the social determinants of health affecting special patient populations. Embodying the 2021 theme “The Chemistry for Strong Communities,” Community Health Centers serve as beacons of strength, service, and care. “We are excited to be celebrating National Health Center Week with our friends, neighbors, patients, and partners in the Torrington and Winsted communities,” said Joanne Borduas, CEO, CHWC. “It has been a challenging year, and I’m proud of our staff for rising to the occasion and their unwavering dedication to serving those in need. In moments of pain and loss, we’ve been here to offer support and love. And in moments of triumph, we are here to offer hope and a vision for a safe, healthy future. It’s time for us all to celebrate together!” For more information, contact CHWC’s event coordinator Gina Burrows, COO [email protected] (860) 387-0407. Comments are closed.
